The mind has often been compared to the weather. We have all heard sayings like I feel under the weather or I feel dark clouds drawing in around me.
Yes our mind is a little weather like, though you must remember whatever pain or joy you are going through will change just like the weather. Everything is temporal in this life, nothing stays the same forever. Good times will pass just as bad ones. We can often feel like the heavens have gone dark and something or someone just wants to pee down on us. Yes it can be very bleak at times, but it is at times like this that we need to try our best to combat the conditions that confront us.
We need not sit outside on a cold or wet day. We can go inside to keep warm. We can light a fire, we can put warmer clothing on, we can wrap up warm with a hot water bottle and see through the day.
You can do just the same when troubles surround you, when it seems that everything is against you, this is the time to go within. This is the time to light your inner fire, to repair your mind and heart, so that it will be stronger the next time you go out into the world.
You must seek to uplift your spirits, nothing good comes from going over the same negative thought again and again. You need to think something different. You need to change your mind, you will not resolve a problem with the same mindset that got you into a state of anxiety. You need to think again.
Yet before you tax your mind with more thinking, you need to find peace and calm, for how can you expect to navigate the course of your life if the sky above you is full of confusing clouds. You need peace, you need calm. You need to brighten your mind, so that you can see clearly, without disruption from those ugly and negative thoughts.
So please stop thinking the worst, it will pass, just as night passes to day, your life will change, the bad times will fade away and better times will come.
